1909: Romesh Chunder Dutt – a prominent Indian Civil Servant, a writer, an economic historian and the person who translated Ramayana and Mahabharata – died on this day.
1990: Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas became chief of Naval Staff on this day. He played a very vital role during 1971’s Indo-Pak war.
1994: Lakshmi N. Menon – a freedom fighter and former Minister of State – died on this day.
2012: Former Prime Minister of India – I. K. Gujral – died on this day.

1707: Second Siege of Pensacola came to an end as British forces failed to capture Pensacola in Florida.
1803: Start of Balmis Expedition in Spain. The aim of the expedition was to vaccinated millions of people against smallpox. The expedition was aimed as Philippines and Spanish America.
1872: The first international football match takes place in Glasgow’s Hamilton Crescent. The game was between England and Scotland.
1916: A copyright treaty called Buenos Aires Convention was signed by Costa Rica.
1936: Crystal Palace in London was destroyed by a fire.
1939: Winter War started with Soviet forces infiltrating various places in Finnish border and managing to bomb various Finnish cities including Helsinki.
